2016
This workshop took place during a Girlguiding county event at a residential Girl Guide facility in Croydon, where Rainbows had gathered for a sleepover and day of activities. I delivered an outdoor mixed-media illustration session, introducing a range of experimental drawing techniques inspired by the theme of wildlife.
Each session explored three different approaches to image-making. Participants used reeds and ink to create expressive drawings based on insect photography, experimented with white spirit and oil pastels to depict model birds, and used wax-resist techniques with candles and watercolour to represent fresh flowers.
The activities encouraged observation, experimentation and play, allowing participants to explore unfamiliar materials in a supportive environment. Feedback from Girlguiding leaders highlighted how much the children enjoyed the workshops and how proud they were of the artworks they produced to take home.
