Northgate School, based at Edgware Community Hospital, provides education for young people aged 11–18 who are experiencing mental health challenges. Working through Community Focus, I delivered a weekly outreach programme during term time, leading creative workshops that encouraged self-expression, confidence and experimentation through art.

The workshops introduced students to a wide range of materials and techniques, with a particular emphasis on textile arts, reflecting the school's commitment to giving students experience in this area. Sessions explored processes including image transfer, free-machine embroidery, appliqué, silk painting, hand embroidery and marbling.

Activities were carefully planned to be flexible, accessible and achievable within each two-hour session, allowing students to experience the satisfaction of completing a finished piece of work while developing new creative skills. Alongside learning practical techniques, the workshops provided a supportive space for personal expression, helping students build confidence, explore ideas and engage with the creative process at their own pace.
