Every second Saturday of the month, St Mary's Old Church in Stoke Newington opened its doors to the local community, inviting people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to come together through creativity. Set within London's only surviving Elizabethan church, dating from 1563, the programme offered a welcoming and inspiring space in which to explore the arts.
For four years, I designed and facilitated inclusive workshops inspired by both traditional and contemporary art practices. Each session was carefully planned to be engaging and accessible for participants with a wide range of ages, interests and experience levels, encouraging creativity, experimentation and shared learning.
Workshops explored a broad range of techniques and materials, including, stencilling, printmaking, textile arts, recycled materials, alternative drawing methods and portraiture. The emphasis was always on creating a relaxed, supportive environment where participants felt confident to try something new, develop their skills and enjoy making art together.
